Matthew has supported the opening of two Autism Support (AS) classes at Goatstown ETSS and has designed collaborative links between the AS classes and mainstream additional support needs. Alongside developing highly effective practice in Additional Support needs, Matthew has nurtured strategies in Learning, Teaching and Assessment, including our digital strategy as a one to one device school. Matthew has brought his experience from his time on the Whole School JCT team to encourage a collaborative approach to subject department planning, developing a school culture where all learners can achieve success.
Speaking on his appointment Matthew said, “ It is a privilege and an honour to lead Goatstown ETSS into the next stage of its development. Goatstown ETSS is a school brimming with potential. I am constantly amazed at the dedication of the teaching and ancillary staff. That dedication plays out in the numerous examples of highly effective learning, teaching, assessment and reporting found in our school.
Every day I see kindness in our interactions and restorative practice approaches in how we resolve conflict. Our student council is a space that nurtures authentic student voice, allowing for age appropriate influence across policy development and decision making. Our learners move around our school with kindness and respect, it truly is a community where we are “learning together to learn to live together”.
I am grateful for the support, advice and hard work of our Board of Management and the community of parents, guardians and carers who are always on hand to help and support. With planning permission now approved for the permanent building, and as ground is broken for our new home, we carry with us our own foundations of equality and democracy that underpins every decision we make. Decisions that always have the learner at the centre of our focus, under our umbrella of Kindness, Creativity and Effort.
